  • The need to support police officers in their work with and for the people in a democratic society, bringing them safety and security as an instrument of democratically controlled public governance.

Subsidiarity

EuroCOP's main task shall be to represent its Member Organisations in European policing matters towards existing and future counterparts on the European level.

This means that EuroCOP primarily becomes active if:

  • a certain issue is decided or dealt with by a counterpart on the European level

  • action through EuroCOP clearly provides added value as compared to action of Member Organisations.

Towards matters such as pay, pensions and working conditions - still being primarily national issues - EuroCOP shall adopt an approach only acting when:

  • an initiative is taken by a European institution or European Union constitutional body

  • a decision to act is taken by a constitutional body of EuroCOP.

EuroCOP assistance in these matters shall, if not part of a decided activity, be limited to developing and providing procedures to facilitate exchange of information between Member Organisations.
