During a meeting with MEP Elmar Brok, Chairman of the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee and member of the European Convention, EuroCOP President Hermann Lutz had the opportunity of once more emphasising the concerns that European police officers have in relation to the European Constitution.
'It is important for us to receive input from practitioners in this field', said Mr. Brok and added that he was thankful for the support on issues like parliamentary control in the area of Justice and Home Affairs cooperation and in achieving greater commitment in the implementation of agreed measures in the field.
'We are anxious to see greater transparency and more democratic control in this area', Hermann Lutz emphasised. 'If Europe shall be brought closer to the people, then this is crucial.' He also added that the European Parliament could look forward to a second contribution from EuroCOP, dealing specifically with the future of justice and home affairs cooperation.
