(Luxembourg, June 18th, 2008)

Following the resignation of Franco Frattini as Justice and Home Affairs Commissioner French Jacques Barrot was nominated for the job. On June 18th the European Parliament supported Barrot's candidacy, making the switch official.

Jacques Barrot has previously been the Commissioner for Transport, as well as Vice President of the Commission, working for the Commission since 2004 in this function.
