GdP Senior Group pay EuroCOP a visit

On Friday last week, EuroCOP welcomed a visit from members of the Senior Group of their German Member Organisation, Gewerkschaft der Polizei (GdP) to their headquarters in Luxembourg. The group of retired police officers met to discuss EuroCOP’s work on the EU level with the topic of the challenges faced since the organisation’s foundation in 2002 being highlighted. Having had many an experience during their collective years as police officers, the group was able to offer a unique insight into policing in Europe and cross-border cooperation. For some of the group this was an interesting follow up visit having previously known the organisation’s predecessor UISP.

As part of their study trip to Luxembourg the group went on to visit the Joint Police Station where they will have had the opportunity to see operative cooperation on cross-border issues and joint investigations between police officers from Germany, France, Belgium and Luxembourg in action. The Joint Police Station in Luxembourg became operative in 2002 and has since been well accepted by all participating forces. Today, a total of about 40.000 requests reach the station per year, most of which can be answered within a delay of less than 24 hours.

The group left Luxembourg with new insights into the EU influenced realms within which EuroCOP works and plans to share these with colleagues on returning home.
