Congress also voted for increasing the Executive Committee by one member, enabling the election of Miroslav Litva for the additional post.

"We are all very happy about this outcome," reelected President Heinz Kiefer commented. "Now we are able to offer even stronger support to our members, especially in the Eastern parts of Europe".
José Maria Garcia was reelected as a EuroCOP Trustee. Milan Stepanek of NOS PCR succeeded Miroslav Litva as a Trustee Board Member.

Franco Frattini opened third day of congress

More cooperation between EuroCOP and the EU Commission, and cooperation between member states to fight crime, these were a few of the matters that the Vice President of the European Commission and Commissioner for Justice, Freedom and Security Franco Frattini, one of the prominent guest speakers addressed at Congress.
"Representing 33 police staff organisations [makes] EuroCOP a very successful organisation, and [I would want to] work closely with your organisation, " Frattini said.

Franco Frattini, the Vice President of the European Commission and Commissioner for Justice, Freedom and Security.

"You work on a day to day basis, you know the operational problems and how to translate our strategic plans into operational activities. You are on the frontline to protect the fundamental rights of freedom and security for all our citizens. My plan is to get even closer to police trade unions."
Frattini also stressed the importance of working together to fight crime.
"Solidarity is a key word and we must work together to face common challenges."
According to Frattini this is the only way to fight terrorism, since measures taken in one country will affect other countries.
"Not one member state [can make its own decisions]. It may be quicker to make a decision nationally and work alone, but criminals don't know any borders."

Norrie Flowers, newly elected second Vice President of EuroCOP commented:
"Policing is the same no matter where you are, whether it be in Iceland or New Zealand. We all have a common goal - just like our congress slogan: safety knows no border."
