EuroCOP makes a mark at ETUC Congress

Presenting a resolution and officially being accepted as an Industry Federation Representative of the ETUC.

Those were the major outcomes of EuroCOP's first participation in an ETUC Congress in Seville, taking place on May 21st to May 24th.

A major achievement for EuroCOP was having a resolution on the situation in the Guardia Civil in Spain adopted by the ETUC Congress.

Seville. The ETUC 11th Congress took place in Palacio de Congressos, just outside Seville.

The resolution calls for reinforced efforts to improve the conditions in the Guardia Seville and for the Spanish government to adopt the reform bills they have presented on this matter as quickly as possible.

'The ETUC Congress has given its unanimous support to our call for progress on the
reform of the Guardia Civil,' EuroCOP President Heinz Kiefer said after the adoption of the resolution.

EuroCOP became an Industry Federation within the ETUC already in October 2005, but at the Congress in Seville this status was formally ratified by the ETUC delegates.

Action. The EuroCOP Executive Committee keeps itself busy at the EuroCOP stand.

EuroCOP also had a stand in the main exhibition hall, which was frequently visited by the ETUC delegates, informing them about the role of EuroCOP in Europe.

Around 1000 delegates from 36 countries and 81 organisations across Europe were present, including Swedish and Norwegian LO, German DGB and Spanish CCOO.

On location in Seville from EuroCOP were, besides the President Heinz Kiefer, also Vice President Jan Schonkeren and Executive Committee Members Manuel Lopez and Norrie Flowers.

All in all EuroCOP's first participation was a major success according to all participants.

"We are very proud to be a part of this Congress and also to be able to take such an active part here," President Heinz Kiefer concluded.

Content. Joan Miquel Perpinya of the AUGC and EuroCOP's Heinz Kiefer were satisfied with the resolution on Guardia Civil being passed.
