Human Rights

A vast number of organisations occupy itself with the promotion of human rights and with respect for human rights in the law enforcement process in general. While acknowledging this work, EuroCOP’s own role however is in the first place to promote the rights of police officers.

Police officers are public employees that are in principal entitled to the same rights as any other citizen.

Human Rights

They do not give up their rights by signing up to the police service. Members of EuroCOP are actively dealing with questions of the status of police officers within their working environment. This includes issues ranging from forms of collective representation as well as the individual officer’s position within disciplinary proceedings.

Achieving greater equality in the workplace is a goal set out in a number of European recommendations. EuroCOP member organisations are working actively to promote equality within their own organisations and their police services. EuroCOP supports these efforts on the European level and within its own structures.
